Fela Kuti

Born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti; Fela Kuti or Fela Anikulapo Kuti (15th October, 1938 - 2nd August, 1997), was a Nigerian musician and political activist. He is essentially regarded as the principal innovator of the Afrobeat genre, a Nigerian style of music which sees to combine West African music with American funk and jazz. As a composer and an instrumentalist, he played several instruments like the saxophone, keyboard, guitar, trumpet... At the height of his career and popularity, he was seen as one of Africa's most challenging and charismatic music performers. Read more on wiki.

The act, Fela Kuti has quite a vast discography with various records done or released almost each year ranging from at least 1970 to 1993 (the years in which he actively released muisc) and even further past that with post-humuos projects credited or tributed to his memory. Some of his most popular works include: Zombie (1976), Shakara (1972), Yellow Fever (1976), Gentleman (1973), Coffin For Head Of State (1980), Water No Get Enemy in Expensive Shit (1975), among many others.
